Amanda Thomas
I am currently the Associate Director of Bands for the Deer Creek Public Schools. I have been involved with music since I was in the third grade. I took piano lessons for three years and then in sixth grade joined the middle school band and played the flute. I was section leader for four years in high school, drum major for two years, was a part of the All-Region band for 6 years, and had the honor of being a part of the Texas All-State band for one year.
I grew to love and appreciate music so much that when I was drum major in high school, I decided that I wanted to pass on my love of music to others. I have taken private flute lessons with Professor Terri Sundberg, Professor of Flute at the University of North Texas, and with Dr. Valerie Watts, Professor of Flute at the University of Oklahoma. I graduated with honors from Sanger High School in May 2002 and went to the University of Oklahoma, where I graduated with distinction in May 2006. In 2005 I was given the honor of Outstanding Music Education Undergraduate Student and in 2006 Outstanding Flute Student. I student taught with David Davisson, Assistant Band Director of Norman North, and with Art Lantagne, Longfellow Middle School Band Director during the spring 2006. I have assisted with the Norman New Horizon’s Band where I was given the opportunity to conduct at the UNT Murchison Music Center. I have given private flute lessons for the past 8 years and played in the University of Oklahoma Marching, Symphony, and Wind Symphony Band.
This is my second year of teaching and I absolutely love teaching music & being a part of the Deer Creek Bands. I live in Mustang with my wonderful husband and adorable cat (Liz).
